Back to KL.

Finally. After going through up and down this semester, 29.10.2010 marked the last day in our semester. And my last paper was Hydraulic at 9am today. Struggle the whole Thursday just to make sure I can answer it. Even sacrificing my sleep for it. And straight to class and exam.

Anyway, glad its over already. Yes, I screwed up a few subjects this semester thanks to the problem that had been bugging me since July. And yeah, I'm recovering from it. More post means I'm getting better day by day. Okay so I didn't sleep last night, and after the test, I decided I want to get home before evening. Earlier wanna get a bus to KL, but instinct told me I better ride Rolla so that my study leave/holiday will not be so boring. So, packed everything and I'm ready to go!

12.45pm. 300km trip.

DIY : Brake Switch, Idle Screw or Screw the Idling?

So here's some progress on Rolla this week. Kinda free now coz my semester is gonna end next week. Most of my subject had already finished their syllabus; now focusing on my second test and finally a break before our final exam. So, using my free time; tried to do some fixing on Rolla. This time on my own. No workshop or friends helping. Just a few phone call and SMS asking around few close friend. Hehehe.

Was trying to adjust the idle coz Rolla's idle was at 1.6k to 2k. That's just plain unnecessary! So, decided to fix it myself. First thing that I touched was this sensor. Earlier I thought this is the thing that I need to touch in order to lower the idle. And guess what? I was wrong! HAHA.

Rolla's Exhaust.

Okay so my house area is filled with this extra tall hump. All of sudden there's a dozen of new one when they resurfaced the road. So I was really like WTF coz Rolla's stance is pretty low, especially the flex pipe and the piping which sit lower than its body. Talking bout stupid workmanship at a lousy exhaust shop.

See? See? Cant even make the exhaust tip aligned with the tunnel.

So I am back in town this weekend, yeah I'll be in town once in two weeks. New rules coz my Dad said even if I am back home every week, I am not physically at home at all. Hahahaha. So got some free time and finally some effort to visit an exhaust shop. Shop called Wei Yip in Balakong. Been there since was with Bee last year. Wei Yip is known for its cheap price tag and I think the workmanship is good.

Going up and cut em all.

Rolla had been running with a 2.3' piping. It was the left over from the Silverturbo engine and yeah, I didn't swapped it when doing the conversion. The noise? From a silent turbo engine, suddenly it became a loud N/A engine. Very loud to me. So why do I need a new set of piping?

Because of this!

A torn flex pipe. Been scrubbing a lot of hump with this. And yes, it leaked. So higher fuel consumption and extra noise from the bottom of the car. Told the worker to make a new set of piping from front till back coz I'm downgrading to 2' pipe size.

Bye-bye rusty pipe.

Took the opportunity to checked Rolla's under carriage. Engine area, no leaking. Good. But this thing concerned me coz the car's making clunking noise whenever the road is not even or going hump. Only right side. Yep, the beam had cracked thanks to the rust. Will fix it at a body shop soon. Meanwhile, I'll just be extra careful with the steering. As you can see, I am using a new set of steering rack for KE70 model and the rack end (Or whatever it is called) is from the Toyota Unser. Just to share. Really no knowledge to explain further so pardon me.

Checked the axle area, and some leaking detected. Definitely not from the axle coz there is no oil stain. Maybe the brake line. Any idea where it came from?

And yeah, the rear adjustable coil over had been set to its max lowered stance. Cant go any further. Wanted to try to adjust the soft-hard setup but I don't know which one is for extra soft of extra hard. Current number is 2.

Weld here and there, and its done. Here's my current exhaust layout. Sit pretty close to the body and yes, it does shake the floor. But for the sake of not scrubbing the hump, I'll just ignore it.

Asked them to make the exhaust to be straight with the tunnel and positioned a bit inside into the body. And yeah, I like it this way.

And its done. So my feedback and conclusion after driving the car for this few days?
  • With 2' size, the exhaust note is 'deeper' and less 'decibel' compare to the 2.3' size. Its quieter lah in other word. Only a bit. Car is still loud if you ask me.
  • Low end RPM improved significantly! Now the acceleration from still to 3000rpm is smoother and I can feel the delivery is better than before. So weak lemau low end RPM is solved with this 2' size. Combine it with 3.5bar of fuel pressure, it is a perfect setup to me for a good acceleration and high speed cruising. Also helped when sideways.
  • Fuel consumption is better after I fixed the piping problem. Other than because of the large diameter of the pipe that contribute to the problem, its the leaking that worsen it. So 2' does improve my mileage.

DIY : 4-Throttle Trumpet Filter.

Got myself a deal from Dworks. A set of trumpets for the Blacktop 20v. Medium length. So I guess it should improve mid-range power?

Rolla had been running without any filters since I got it back. Yes, it improved the performance coz there is no air restriction, but the downside is that it sucked everything thus making the internal dirty and probably damaged.

Fuel Pressure for 20v.

Okay, so basically every time I took Rolla out, I need to pump in at least RM20 of fuel, even if its just to KL from Cheras (around 15km and 20-40mins when traffic is no good). Which is not good for my walletla in other words.

And it pops a lot of fire whenever I decelerate. Few friends told me that the car was running rich. And yes, my friend already told me that they set it to a bit rich so that the car will not have any problem when high revving. And I didn't even bother to checked the fuel regulator since I got my car back.

The new bay. Bling bling. Anyone noticed some new stuffs here and something that isn't right? I'll go into it later.

Video : 20V Noise.

The key ingredients for this dumb post are:
One sad dude.
One neighbor that understand the problem.
One good car.
Good traffic.
And one long tunnel.

Pump in some fuel for one short trip.

Some cruising video.

And finally a good ABC as an ending.

Home Sweet Home.

I am back. Back in KL. Gosh, I miss my room, my speaker, my parents of coz, and I miss KL especially the traffic jam. Gegegegege. So basically I got MC from doctor. Why? Currently suffering a backbone problem. I had been assuming that's the problem until I checked with Doc. Found out that my ligament between my left leg and my back had torn apart..

Thanks to skateboarding and picking up heavy stuffs. So now? I guess no more skateboarding and Doc told me to have a looooooong good rest. No sports, no heavy lifting, and no extreme activity. It is torturing me but I guess I need to bear with it until it is healed again.

In!

Looks like everything had taken their places. Bay had been repainted to black color and the engine had been sitting in its original position and cleaned. Rack and pinion arriving soon. So, just need a new piping set. From extractor till the muffler. My friend said it will be using a 2' piping instead of the original turbo piping which is 2.4'. And I'll be using Din's twin tip exhaust!

On The Floor..

Got an email today from my friend, telling me whats the update on Corolla.

Looks like both engine is on the floor already. Silverturbo had been 'scavenge' to 'complete' its younger brother, the Blacktrumpet. They took back my new alternator, and the timing belt. Also, the gearbox had been fitted into the Blacktrumpet.

Plan B : Blacktop.

Was about to get a good deal of 16 valve that came with new timing belt and clutch plate when someone else bought it first. Huargh. Already asked my friend to source another 16valve but most of em came with an expensive price tag. So, we initiated the second plan, which is the 20valve Blacktop.

Rolla on jack-stand again.. This time to swap the engine and also the steering rack.
